Northern Visions

The ‘Northern Limits’ project carried out the first Material Flow Analysis (MFA) and Ecological Footprint (EF) of Northern Ireland and established an evidence based, robust framework for the measurement of the resource efficiency of the Northern Ireland economy.  Northern Visions will build on ‘Northern Limits’ by delivering a programme of research, development and capacity building in applying resource accounting tools to policy development and decision-making.

Northern Visions: Objectives and Outputs
Objective 1: Establishment of the Sustainability and Resources Institute (SRI);
Objective 2: Further development and application of the MFA and EF methods to identify key impacts and priority areas for action;
Objective 3: Identification of amenability to change of impact areas, including waste;
Objective 4: Development and provision of a tool to aid decision making;
Objective 5: Development of a programme of education, training, communication and capacity building.
